169/365
dusk fell upon me as i walked this evening, late night
i couldn't resist stopping to scoop up a firefly in my hand
as i passed it and spotted it's shape in the dim light
later, inside, i noticed one had stowed away on me
and i only managed to capture it and return it to safety
before our cat had her way with it
the girls are two doors down, after a brief return home
to gulp down dinner, and now they've marched back
through the woods to visit the just this morning born kittens
this is the second litter they've seen born this year
and i think it's joyful for them, but glad to be able to say
no new pets, not now, we have enough, thank you
it's 9:00 p.m. twilight here right now
perfect time to shake off the day
and be at peace

"Shake off the day"...I like that. I need to do that, too...the days are long but time is short. Crazy...
ReplyDeleteYou have captured evening perfectly. I can see the attraction to cuddling new born kitties, how lucky! I hope your rest of the evening was restful :)
ReplyDeleteI miss fireflies, or as I called them growing up, lightening bugs. In my 18 years of living in CO I have found _one_magical spot with lightening bugs. And it happens to be at my favorite nudie hot springs.
